As for not wanting to be thought of as developers, I think it's an aversion to being over-associated with pocket protectors, no matter how good you are at code. I think hands down most web designers/developers are going to consider themselves designers first and foremost. Personally I like "designeloper" over "devsigner". It puts the "design" first...
